Scottish Reunion!
This past weekend was special. After six years of working in different companies and living in different parts of the world, Damola and I had the opportunity to reconnect with Paul Adebo, our former manager in the early stages of our careers. I invited Paul to Scotland, and we spent a few days exploring the breathtaking Scottish Highlands, the historic streets of Edinburgh, and the vibrant energy of Glasgow.
Our first meeting since I left the company where we all worked all those years ago was filled with reminiscing about old times, catching up on our individual journeys, and creating new memories. We both realized that even though our paths diverged professionally, the bond we formed in those early years remained strong.
The Journey Through Scotland
Paul had never been to Scotland before, so we took great pleasure in showing him around. We started our journey in the Highlands, where the rugged beauty of the landscape left us both in awe. There’s something about the vastness and the tranquility of the Highlands that makes you reflect on life’s journey—how far we’ve come and the people who have been part of that journey.
From there, we made our way to Edinburgh, with its rich history and stunning architecture. As we walked down the Royal Mile and visited the iconic Edinburgh Castle, we talked about how much has changed since we last worked together. But more importantly, we talked about how the core values we shared—integrity, hard work, and the importance of building strong relationships—remained the same.
Finally, we ended our trip in Glasgow, my city, a city that perfectly blends the old and the new. We spent hours exploring the museums, enjoying the local cuisine, and of course, taking plenty of photos to capture the moment. These weren’t just tourist shots; they were snapshots of a renewed friendship.
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to lose touch with former colleagues and mentors as we move on to new opportunities and challenges. But this weekend was a powerful reminder of why it’s so important to keep those connections alive. The relationships we build in our professional lives can—and often do—transcend the workplace. They evolve into personal relationships that bring richness to our lives in ways we might not expect.
Hosting Paul was not just about catching up with an old colleague; it was about reaffirming the value of the relationships we build along the way. It reminded me that our careers are not just about the jobs we do or the goals we achieve—they’re about the people we meet and the connections we make. These connections can offer support, guidance, and friendship that lasts long after the projects are completed and the roles have changed.
As I reflect on this weekend, I’m filled with gratitude for the people like Paul who have been part of my journey. I’m also reminded of the importance of nurturing these relationships, because you never know when the opportunity to reconnect will come, or how much richer your life will be because of it.
So here’s to keeping in touch, making the effort to reach out, and cherishing the connections we’ve made. You never know—they might just lead to a weekend as memorable as this one.
